Reflexology for pre-conception
An increasing number of couples are turning to alternative therapies when they are thinking of starting a family. Whether they are simply preparing their body for pregnancy or have been trying for a while without success - reflexology can be of great benefit.
When trying for a baby, it is so important that you are prepared - both emotionally and physically - for the journey ahead. Reflexology takes an holistic approach to ensure as much as possible that both partners are relaxed, well balanced and healthy - to help give them the best possible chance of conceiving. As with any alternative therapy, there are no guarantees of success, but reflexology can, at the very least, help you and your body prepare for pregnancy.
Treating conditions that may affect fertility
There are a number of conditions that are known to potentially affect your chances of conceiving, for example:
- PCOS
- Endometriosis
- Menstrual cycle problems
- Hormone imbalances
- Thyroid problems
When treating clients with any of these conditions, a specific treatment plan will be devised at your initial consultation. The aim of reflexology when treating these types of conditions is to:
- Balance Hormones - encourages regular menstruation and ovulation
- Elimination - encourages good endometrial shedding
- Relaxation - to combat stress & the negative affects it can have on your body
Unexplained Subfertility:
It seems that an increasing number of couples who are having problems conceiving are told simply that they have 'unexplained subfertility'. This can be both frustrating and disheartening when there is no apparent reason why you can't get pregnant. Experts believe that one of the possible causes of this condition could be stress, which is why reflexology may be helpful. With regular treatments, stress levels can be reduced allowing the body to rebalance and function normally, which in turn may improve your chances of conceiving.
Assisted Conception
Couples with subfertility issues may well end up on the path to assisted conception e.g. IUI, IVF etc. Reflexology can help support this type of clinical intervention and can indeed help you and your body to prepare for treatment. However reflexology must be discontinued once the actual IVF cycle starts.
