Photo of pregnant womanEver since I first qualified I've had a special interest in the area of fertility and pregnancy, and having had extra training, have been specialising in this area for the last three years. Since then, I have successfully treated many clients before, during and after pregnancy and get an extra enjoyment from this fascinating and rewarding part of my work.

Reflexology can be an excellent support throughout pregnancy and after the baby is born. At a time when they body is going through so many changes, reflexology can help you remain relaxed and balanced, as well as helping to alleviate some of the unwelcome symptoms of pregnancy such as back pain and odema.

Reflexology can be started after the first trimester (12 weeks) and carried on right through until the baby is born. Although every client is assessed on an individual basis, as a guide, 2 sessions a month are recommended during the second trimester, increasing to weekly during the third trimester.

When having to cope with some of the side affects of pregnancy, alternative therapies like reflexology, really come into their own. It provides a natural way of helping you through things like nausea, heartburn, back ache etc. whilst also giving you some much needed time out to relax and improve your sense of wellbeing.

Once your little one has finally arrived and you now have the important task of looking after them, it is very easy to forget to look after yourself!

At least one session of reflexology is recommended - ideally within 2-3 days of giving birth. This will help your body - and hormones in particular - start to rebalance and heal after the exertion of giving birth. It will also help with the elimination of any toxins following an epidural.

In an ideal world, continuing with monthly reflexology sessions will help your body continue the self-healing process and keep you relaxed and calm to enjoy your new life as a mum.
